Up for sale is a beautiful vintage mid-20th-century hand-carved anthropomorphic squatting ancestor figure from Tobi Island (Hatohobei), located in the Caroline Islands of Micronesia (frequently associated with Palauan traditional carving styles).
This piece is exceptionally well-crafted, exhibiting the classic minimalist form, prominent stylized ears, and signature resting arm pose characteristic of the region. It features brilliant, fully intact almond-shaped inlaid shell eyes that contrast beautifully against the deep, rich tropical hardwood.
The figure has an excellent, substantial physical presence—standing 6 inches tall and weighing a solid 9.8 ounces, highlighting the dense quality of the slow-growth ironwood/hardwood used by the master carver.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition with a gorgeous polished patina. No cracks, major chips, or missing inlay. Figure does show some spots and flaws here and there from handling and age. Please view all photos closely to verify condition and dimensions before purchasing.
Thank you for looking and God Bless!
