Picturesque Innsbruck, Capital of Tyrol Austria–Below Stern Bavarian Stereoview For Sale

We are looking almost directly north from the shelter, with high mountains behind us. Munich, 70 miles away straight ahead beyond that mountain-wall, Lake Constance and the frontier are about as far away west; Vienna and Budapest and Kronstadt farther and farther away at the east; Trieste is 40 miles distant, Venice lies beyond the shores of the Adriatic. The river by whose the town its name is flowing (from N.E. right) at the foot of the mountain; the winding stream that we see on our left is its tributary. The city numbers less than 24,000 people and no large commercial interest, but its romantic beauty is known all Europe.
This charming region was early known by the enterprising Romans, and its fertile fields were a Roman province nineteen hundred years ago. The Tyrolese are proud and fond of their own country. Only a hundred years ago, when Napoleon attempted to join this territory to Bavaria, Andreas Hofer led his countrymen in a valiant rising against the Bavarian masters. They take this hill where we stand now and the town below; but the brave band came to grief here.
