Up for sale is a magnificent, substantial vintage Italian centerpiece bowl crafted in the ornate Baroque / Rococo Revival style. This statement piece features a dramatic, undulating scalloped rim mimicking a stylized blossom or shell, paired with heavy, intricately cast openwork side handles detailed with C-scrolls and acanthus leaf motifs.
The main body shows beautiful, authentic craftsmanship with a hand-hammered, planished texture throughout. It is securely bolted to a sturdy, flared cast pedestal foot that follows the contoured silhouette of the bowl perfectly.
Marks & Authenticity:
The underside is stamped "MADE IN ITALY" and features an incised maker's hallmark depicting a rampant lion inside a shield. This hallmark is highly indicative of mid-20th-century high-end Italian decorative brass foundries specializing in classic European historical reproductions.
Condition:
Excellent vintage condition with a rich, highly desirable aged patina. The piece features an original dark chemical/bronzed antiquing technique applied directly to the solid brass. Decades of handling have beautifully worn away the dark finish on the high points of the castings and sections of the interior, revealing the bright, warm golden brass underneath. No major dents or structural damage. Heavy, solid construction. Please review the high-resolution photos for a detailed look at the finish and patina.
Dimensions:
Length: Approx. 21.5 inches (outer rim edge to outer rim edge)
Height: Approx. 9.5 inches (to the highest peak of the decorative cast center handles)
