AUTHENTIC MANHATTAN PROJECT S-SITE (HIGH EXPLOSIVES DIV.) BADGE #93, 1943-1945 For Sale

This is an authentic S-Site Badge (Number 93) used during the Manhattan Project which lasted from 1943-1945. This brass exchange badge was likely used at the GMX-3 S-Site (High Explosives Division) where the explosives were developed for the atomic bombs during the Manhattan Project at the secret Los Alamos facility in New Mexico. A worker would exchange his regular identification badge for this brass badge when entering the High Explosives Facility. In the event of an accident, the foreman could tell immediately who was in the Facility by a quick glance at the exchange badge board. In addition, the robust metal badges would likely remain intact in the event of an explosion and would enable rapid identification of any injured personnel.
I purchased some of these exchange badges in 2001 at the Los Alamos Sales Company (aka The Black Hole), a store that specialized in selling surplus, recycled, and non-radioactive(!) items that were excessed by what is now Los Alamos National Laboratory. I couldn't believe my luck in finding these incredible, genuine relics of the Manhattan Project! I am now retired and selling some of my extra pieces.
Please note that although the pin is securely attached to the back of this badge, it does rock back and forth within its brass tab (as shown in the last 2 photos). Otherwise, the badge is in good, wearable condition. The price has been reduced accordingly.
This would make an awesome holiday gift for any history buff or collector. The badge measures 1.5" x 1.2" and comes with an information card (as shown) and a gift box.
