Original January 14, 1888 typed business letter on ornate letterhead from Stedman & Barret, Wholesale Fancy Grocers, located at Nos. 4 and 8 Main Street, Houston, Texas.
Addressed to R. E. Gish & Co., Lynchburg, Virginia.
This fascinating piece of 19th-century tobacco-trade correspondence discusses their interest in additional shipments of “Uncle True” tobacco, storage issues due to the Texas climate, and proposed arrangements for receiving 78 boxes at 30¢ as needed. The letter also mentions future ordering, remittance for invoices, and questions about the manufacturer’s plans if tobacco production ceases.
