X-MEN #58 — Alex Summers gets a name, a costume, and Neal Adams.
Cover-dated July 1969, \"Enter... the Man Called Havok!\" is the issue where Cyclops\'s younger brother Alex Summers first steps into costume as Havok. Alex had turned up a few issues earlier; here he gets the name, the black suit with its concentric energy rings, and his first real turn as a hero. Marvel has barely touched that design in more than fifty years.
Roy Thomas scripts, with Neal Adams on pencils and Tom Palmer on inks. The Thomas–Adams X-Men issues are among the most admired runs of the late Silver Age, and they arrived just before the series went into reprints. The Sentinels are back in this issue, with Mesmero, the Living Pharaoh and Banshee in cameo.
Adams\' cover is unlike almost anything else on the 1969 spinner rack. It lets a single flat field of orange carry the whole image, with the team trapped in a capsule at its center.
