AUTHENTIC VINTAGE PETERSEN VISE-GRIP NO. 10R LOCKING PLIERS
Offered here is a genuine vintage Petersen Vise-Grip No. 10R straight-jaw locking pliers, proudly made in DeWitt, Nebraska, U.S.A.
This is a great example of the early American Vise-Grip design and carries the distinctive Petersen markings and patent information that collectors look for.
A PIECE OF AMERICAN TOOL HISTORY
The Vise-Grip design traces its roots to William Petersen, whose locking-pliers patents helped establish the design that became one of the most recognizable American hand tools ever produced.
This particular tool is marked:
PETERSEN MFG. CO.
DEWITT, NEBR. U.S.A.
The handle is also stamped with:
U.S. PAT. NO. 2,280,005
U.S. PAT. NO. 2,514,130
OTHER PAT. PEND.
Patent No. 2,280,005 was issued to William Petersen on April 14, 1942 and covers important elements of the locking-plier mechanism. The later Patent No. 2,514,130 was issued to Harold T. Jones on July 4, 1950 and covered an improved locking/release mechanism that Petersen later licensed for use in Vise-Grip tools.
The Petersen name, DeWitt Nebraska markings, patent stamps, and forged 10R model marking make this an especially interesting example for collectors of vintage American tools.
