THE ART OF KHATAM (MICRO-MOSAIC MARQUETRY):

Khatam is one of Iran's most intricate traditional decorative arts. Skilled artisans bundle thousands of micro-thin triangular rods made of genuine spun brass wire, camel bone, and contrasting woods (walnut, rosewood, and orange wood). These bundles form complex geometric star motifs (Shamseh), which are then sliced into wafer-thin veneer sheets and meticulously laid over the solid wood core under a protective clear lacquer.
