Exceptional vintage handmade American “Streak of Lightning” quilt dating to the 1920s, beautifully hand constructed in a striking two-color combination of aqua blue and soft yellow cotton. The Streak of Lightning pattern creates dramatic repeating diagonal, stair-step formations across the entire quilt. From a distance, the tightly arranged geometric pieces produce an almost optical effect, while up close the individual piecing and hand quilting reveal the workmanship that went into its construction. The color combination is especially appealing — aqua/seafoam blue paired with sunny yellow — giving this approximately 100-year-old American quilt a remarkably fresh and graphic appearance. The quilt is hand quilted, with visible hand stitches throughout. The reverse is a coordinating solid aqua/seafoam cotton, allowing the hand quilting and construction to be appreciated from both sides.A wonderful surviving example of early 20th-century American textile craftsmanship, suitable for an antique quilt collection, historic textile collection, display, photography/styling, or carefully used as statement bedding.MeasurementsApproximately 94” x 76”Bed Size FitThe 94” x 76” dimensions work particularly well as a Twin or Full/Double bed quilt, depending on the desired drop. There are scattered areas of fabric wear and small holes/losses, primarily visible within some of the yellow pieces. One area has a more noticeable opening where the batting and underlying aqua fabric can be seen. There is also significant fraying/wear to a section of the outer edge/binding, as clearly photographed. Additional minor age-related fading, discoloration, fabric thinning, irregularities and wear may be present throughout. These imperfections are consistent with a textile of this age and have not been concealed or restored for the photographs. Please examine all close-up images carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.Despite the age-related wear, the quilt displays beautifully and retains the distinctive rhythm, color and character that make early American handmade quilts so collectible.antique quilt, 1920s quilt, Streak of Lightning quilt, antique American quilt, USA quilt, hand quilted quilt, hand pieced quilt, antique cotton quilt, aqua yellow quilt, blue yellow quilt, two color quilt, geometric quilt, early American textile, antique textile, folk art quilt, collectible quilt, heirloom quilt, historic quilt, vintage bedding, American folk art
