Item Overview: Very Rare Tiny Basket
Up for sale is a beautiful, highly collectible miniature single-handled Cherokee basket hand-woven by the renowned Eastern Band Cherokee artisan, Lucinda Bird Reed (1921–2004).
This exceptional piece is a masterclass in miniature tribal basketry. It is tightly woven from flexible, natural honeysuckle vine over a sturdy structure of split white oak for the uprights, rim, and handle. The basket features a classic dual-tone design, contrasting natural tan weavers with rich, dark brown rows colored by traditional plant-based dyes (traditionally black walnut hulls).
Lucinda Reed was a celebrated member of the Qualla Arts & Crafts Mutual cooperative in North Carolina, and her work is highly sought after by collectors of authentic Native American and Southeastern tribal folk art.
Condition:
Excellent vintage condition. The weave remains tight and intact with no structural breaks, loose ends, or major damage. The colors retain beautiful, soft natural aging. (Please review all high-resolution photos carefully as they form part of the condition description).
