Vintage 1975-79 Seaweed Herbarium 10 Specimens Car Biological Supply AlgaeOriginal vintage collection of 10 mounted marine algae / seaweed herbarium specimens prepared by Carolina Biological Supply Company of Burlington, North Carolina, dating from 1975–1979. Each specimen is mounted on a large herbarium sheet and accompanied by a printed scientific label identifying the taxonomic name, common name where applicable, family, collection locality, collection date, habitat, and other field information.
The collection represents several Atlantic coastal localities including Beaufort and Bogue Sound, North Carolina; Jonesport, Maine; Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island; and Block Island Sound, Rhode Island. Species represented include Ulva lactuca (Sea Lettuce), Fucus vesiculosus (Rockweed), Cladophora crystallina, Desmarestia viridis, Sargassum filipendula (Gulfweed), Dasya pedicellata (Chenille Weed), Enteromorpha intestinalis (Link Confetti), Ascophyllum nodosum (Wrack), and Polysiphonia urceolata, with two examples of Fucus vesiculosus represented.
These are genuine dried botanical/phycological specimens rather than reproductions or botanical prints. The sheets retain the actual mounted algae, creating a particularly attractive combination of scientific history, natural-history collecting, marine biology and botanical display. Comparable algae specimens are preserved in major institutional herbarium collections, including Smithsonian and university collections.
Sold as one collection of 10 specimens exactly as photographed.
