RARE HISTORICAL EPHEMERA LOT WITH HOLLYWOOD ARCHITECTURAL PROVENANCE

Up for sale is a unique collection of 11 vintage issues of Theatre Arts magazine, spanning 1953 to 1960. While these magazines are fantastic historical records of mid-century American theater on their own, this specific lot carries extraordinary provenance for collectors of architectural history and mid-century Americana.

The Wright Family Connection:

Every single issue in this lot features its original vintage subscription mailing label addressed to Mrs. Lloyd Wright at 858 No. Doheny, Los Angeles 46, Calif.

This is the historic, landmarked Lloyd Wright Home and Studio in West Hollywood. "Mrs. Lloyd Wright" was Helen Taggart, wife of the legendary architectural designer Frank Lloyd Wright Jr. (known professionally as Lloyd Wright), and daughter-in-law to the master architect Frank Lloyd Wright himself. Lloyd Wright designed this iconic Doheny Drive residence and studio in 1927, living and working there until his passing in 1978.

These magazines were delivered directly to, and read within, one of the most architecturally significant homes in Southern California. They offer an intimate, tangible connection to the daily lives, interests, and artistic inspirations of the Wright family during the height of the mid-century design movement.

What is Included:

  • A continuous curated snapshot of mid-century theater culture from 1953 to 1960.

  • 11 complete issues with intact covers, advertisements, and articles.

  • Original, authentic paper mailing labels firmly attached to either the front or back of each issue (as pictured).

Condition Notes:

Magazines are in authentic, vintage condition consistent with their age. Expect minor edge wear, spine creasing, and natural paper tanning. Covers remain vibrant, and the text blocks/imagery are clean. Please see the high-resolution photos to inspect the exact condition of the covers and the historical mailing labels.

This lot is being sold together to preserve its incredible provenance. A remarkable addition for any collector of Frank Lloyd Wright ephemera, architectural history, or mid-century Hollywood memorabilia.
