Vintage Boy Scouts of America uniform accessory and merit badge collection, believed to date primarily from the late 1940s–1950s based on the style, construction, insignia, and merit badges.
This is a nice group of original mid-century BSA material being offered together rather than separated. The lot includes an official BSA overseas/garrison-style cap, merit badge sash with badges, additional loose merit badges, long Scout stockings, and vintage suspenders/braces.
Included in this lot:
• Official Boy Scouts of America khaki/olive overseas-style cap with red piping and embroidered BSA fleur-de-lis/eagle emblem. The inside retains a faded original ink stamp identifying it as Boy Scouts of America, along with additional faded manufacturing/inspection markings. The cap measures approximately 10½–11 inches long when laid flat.
• Vintage BSA merit badge sash, approximately 30 inches long, with 7 period merit badges attached.
• 7 additional loose vintage merit badges, for a total of 14 merit badges in the collection.
• Pair of long olive/khaki Scout stockings. These show considerable age and use, including discoloration and an old repaired/darned area.
• Vintage green suspenders/braces with metal clips/hardware and leather reinforcement pieces.
The merit badges have the older khaki/olive twill construction with embroidered borders and designs associated with mid-century Boy Scouting. They display a variety of traditional Scouting skills and activities.
Condition
This is an original vintage used collection and is being sold in as-found condition.
The pieces show age-appropriate wear including fading, discoloration, staining/soiling, loose threads, fabric wear and other evidence of use and long-term storage. The stockings show particularly noticeable wear and an apparent old repair/darned area. The suspenders show age and wear to the elastic, leather pieces and metal hardware.
The cap shows fading and wear consistent with its age. Importantly, the interior still retains a faint original Boy Scouts of America ink stamp/marking, which is visible in the photographs.
The merit badges vary in condition and show normal age-related wear. Seven remain attached to the sash and seven are loose.
No attempt has been made to clean, restore, repair or alter these items. They are being offered as found in order to preserve their vintage character.
Please review all photographs carefully, including the photographs of the cap's interior markings, measurements, merit badges, stockings and suspenders. The photographs are considered an important part of the description and show the actual items the buyer will receive.
A very interesting group for a Boy Scouts of America collector, vintage Scout uniform collector, merit badge collector, Scouting historian, or display.
Sold together as one lot.
