This was commonly given to loved ones or family of the soldier to show support. The 82nd Airborne is famous for being an elite, rapid-response force know as "America's Guard of Honor," famous for its swift parachute deployments in critical conflicts from WWI to modern day, its "All-American" patch, it "AA" designation from its origins, and its elite, highly-trained paratroopers specializing in forcible entry operations, making them central to the U.S. military's quick reaction force.
