Ultra Rare Great White Shark Fossil Tooth – Pico Formation – Ventura County, CA For Sale

Up for sale is a 1.15” (~2.9 cm) fossil Great White Shark tooth (Carcharodon carcharias) from the Pico Formation of Ventura County, California, dating to the Late Pliocene–Early Pleistocene, approximately 2–3 million years ago. The Great White Shark is one of the ocean’s most iconic apex predators, distinguished by its powerful jaws and large, triangular teeth with finely serrated cutting edges, perfectly adapted for cutting through marine prey. This specimen displays an attractive gray-brown enamel crown, visible serrations, and preserved material at the base of the tooth. What makes this locality particularly interesting is the reported scarcity of Great White Shark teeth with intact roots, with even partially preserved examples considered desirable by collectors familiar with the site. The Pico Formation of Ventura County preserves sediments deposited in the ancient Pacific Ocean during a period of significant environmental and faunal changes along the California coastline. Fossil Great White Shark teeth from this formation offer valuable insight into the prehistoric distribution of a species that continues to inhabit our oceans today. Unlike the far more commonly marketed fossil shark teeth from Florida, the Carolinas, and Morocco, specimens with documented provenance from Ventura County’s Pico Formation offer distinctive regional collector appeal. Measuring 1.15 inches, this fossil is an excellent addition for collectors of rare California shark teeth, Great White Sharks, Pliocene–Pleistocene fossils, and prehistoric Pacific marine life. The exact fossil tooth shown in the listing photographs is the specimen you will receive.
