Please message me with any questions of if you'd like different Buddha, also known as the “Bhaisajyaguru,” is the leader of the Eastern Pure Land. He is called the “Medicine Buddha” because of his ability to cure both physical and mental ailments. The image of Medicine Buddha originates from Shakyamuni, who taught the Medicine Buddha Dharma to benefit all beings. Medicine Buddha is not only a healer of diseases but also a light that dispels the darkness of the three realms, making him a Buddha deeply connected to human life.
According to Buddhist scriptures, the Medicine Buddha’s legend comes from the ancient Indian city of “Guangyan.” There, under the “Music Tree,” Shakyamuni recited the “Medicine Master Lapis Lazuli Light Sutra,” which outlines how the practice of the Medicine Buddha Dharma can help one live longer and transform danger into safety. It is also said to lead beings to the Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
Medicine Buddha whose full name is Medicine Buddha of Lapis Lazuli Light, is also known as Medicine Buddha Tathagata, King of Medicine, etc. Medicine Buddha of Lapis Lazuli Light Tathagata is the leader of the Eastern Lapis Lazuli World. The following are the characteristics of the Medicine Buddha statue:
- - Medicine Buddha has a blue body as clear and transparent as a blue glass gemstone, with a halo behind him. He has a kind face, a solemn demeanor, black hair and a flesh-like bun, ears hanging down to his shoulders, wearing a shoulder-length robe, bare chest and right arm, barefoot, sitting in Vajra posture on a double-layer lotus throne.
- - The lotus throne symbolizes purity and also means that the Buddha was born in the reincarnation of sentient beings but got rid of the troubles of mind and body and achieved Buddhahood.
- - The left hand holds a bowl filled with immortal nectar, which is placed between the navel to indicate that he can bestow immortal nectar medicine, cure the illnesses of sentient beings, eradicate all the sufferings of cause and effect, and save sentient beings from the sea of suffering.
- - The right hand twists a Tibetan medicine Terminalia chebula seedling and places it on the right knee, indicating that Medicine Buddha can prepare all panaceas for sentient beings and bestow the wish-fulfilling treasure of Buddhism on sentient beings.
