TLS from General Friedrich Buchenau (1979): Reflections on the Eastern Front: $40.00
TLS, 2-pages from 1979, a letter from Brigadegeneral a.D. (retired) Friedrich Buchenau to Mr. D. Pumphrey, who had written to him with questions about his military service and the Knight’s Cross. Buchenau expresses appreciation for the interest in German military history, provides personal and military details, and recounts how he earned the Knight’s Cross during the final battles in Pomerania, where his regiment helped open a corridor for tens of thousands of soldiers and refugees to reach the West. (1912-1994) Friedrich Buchenau was a German officer who served in the Wehrmacht during World War II. He rose to the rank of Brigadegeneral a.D. (retired brigadier general) and was a recipient of the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross, awarded for extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. After the war, Buchenau lived in Idar-Oberstein, Germany. He corresponded with researchers and military historians interested in the history of the Knight’s Cross recipients, providing first-hand accounts of his wartime experiences. Comes with a full Letter of Authenticity from Todd Mueller Authentics.
