Rare Alopias Alabamensis 0.6” – Western Sahara, Morocco – Late Eocene: $29.00
Rare Alopias Alabamensis 0.6” – Western Sahara, Morocco – Late Eocene — Up for sale is an authentic fossil thresher shark tooth from the Western Sahara region of Morocco, dating to the Late Eocene, approximately 40 million years ago; this specimen measures approximately 0.6 inches and represents an extinct thresher shark from the family Alopiidae, the lineage that includes the spectacular long-tailed thresher sharks still living today; thresher sharks are highly specialized predators famous for their exceptionally elongated upper tail lobe, which modern species use to stun schooling fish; fossil thresher teeth from this part of Western Sahara are considerably less commonly encountered than many of the shark teeth from Morocco’s better-known phosphate deposits, making this a particularly interesting locality for collectors; the exact 0.6” fossil shown in the pictures is the specimen you will receive; an excellent addition for collectors of rare shark species, Eocene marine fauna, and unusual Moroccan localities.
