FRUIT… BUT SOMETHING’S OFF

This 1891 N12 Allen & Ginter “Banana” (check out Trading Card Database for confirmation of the year) hails from the Fruits series and packs pure Victorian charm.

A young girl peels a banana against a lush colored backdrop—a perfect example of the detailed lithography and artistry of 19th-century tobacco cards. Either way, it’s the kind of cardboard that sparks conversation over a century after it was printed.

Then you look again.

Because it’s not just charming—it’s a little strange.

The pose.

The expression.

The whole thing sits right on that line between elegant and unsettling.

PSA 5.5 EX+. Strong color. Clean surface. Survived 130+ years and still hitting harder than most modern junk.

Don’t come whining to us about “comps.” That word makes our skin crawl. Besides, we’re not your therapist.
