Striking mid-century style welded steel sculptural vessel constructed from numerous individually cut, overlapping metal panels with exposed welds and an intentionally raw, architectural surface.
The construction and aesthetic are strongly reminiscent of the welded patchwork metalwork associated with Paul Evans and the American Brutalist design movement. This piece is unsigned and has not been authenticated or attributed to Paul Evans, and it is being offered strictly as Paul Evans style / in the manner of.
The entire piece is magnetic and appears to be constructed possibly of steel. It is quite substantial and heavy for its size.
Unlike a functional vase, the patchwork construction contains openings/gaps between some of the metal sections, indicating that it was created as a decorative/sculptural vessel rather than a container for liquids.
11 1/2\" tall
10\" wide
The surface displays varying dark brown, black, bronze and oxidized tones. There appears to be naturally occurring rust/oxidation consistent with the exposed steel construction and age. No attempt has been made to clean, polish, refinish or remove the existing patina.
No signature or maker\'s mark has been located.
A very unusual example of welded patchwork metalwork with a wonderful Brutalist / studio-crafted appearance. Particularly striking when viewed in person, where the irregular overlapping plates, exposed welds and sculptural construction are much more apparent.
Condition: Vintage condition with surface oxidation, rust, irregularities, gaps, rough edges, weld marks and other characteristics inherent to its handmade construction. Please examine all photographs carefully as they are an important part of the description.
Striking piece!
