Pappy Boyington Handwritten Signed Letter 1979 Flying Tigers Ficklen Print For Sale

Original handwritten letter from Gregory 'Pappy' Boyington — Medal of Honor recipient, Marine Corps ace (28 victories), and commander of VMF-214, the Black Sheep Squadron. Written on Boyington's own illustrated 'From Pappy's' letterhead and dated Aug. 28, 1979. The full text reads: 'Dear John: Thanks for your order — In answer to your question, I have two new prints, both on my Flying Tiger days. One is an action scene downing my first enemy plane over Rangoon, Burma, by Reynolds. The other is a painting, like the Corsair, by Ficklen. There are one thousand limited editions, each at $50.00. Best always — Pappy Boyington.' Boldly hand-signed 'Pappy Boyington' at the close. A wonderful piece of aviation history — Boyington here describes his own limited-edition prints, including one by artist John D. Ficklen. Used condition; paper shows light age toning consistent with a 1979 letter.
