Very nice mint VintagePUMA 1979 "BIG AFRICAN FIVE" Elephant Knife Mint In Presentation Wood Box. The serial number is 153. The handles are gorgeous hand scrimshaw Micarta handles with hand engraved polished brass bolsters and intricate polished brass etched blades.
The satin finished blades have awesome deep "AFRICAN BIG FIVE" etching filled with gold on both sides of the blades. The brass bolsters are elaborately hand engraved.The hand engraving was done by the PUMA master engravers, Jürg and Gerda Hensel and their team of engravers and carvers.
This knife comes a very nice presentation display case that is lined with red velvet. The tag number is 15181. This dates them as being produced in the 1st half of 1981 by at Puma Werks.
PUMA only made this model as a Limited Edition. This knife set is serial number 153. The serial number is on the back of the blade. This is a chance to own a great piece of PUMA cutlery history.

The handle has threepolished brass rivets. The handles have the picture and name of "THE AFRICAN BIG FIVE" on the fronthandleand rear of the handle is etched with a Elephant.
This knife comes in the original factory PUMA presentation wood box with the Puma gold guarantee control tag and factory papers.
This PUMA knife were hand made in Solingen, Germany in 1979 and were made to the the highest PUMA quality in Solingen, Germany.

This knife is a magnificent knife inspired by the majestic wild beauty of the African continent. PUMA-WERK Solingen, West Germany created a masterpiece knife named "THE AFRICAN FIVE". The guarantee control number is 15181 and is stamped on the knife blade lock release.
Engraved on one side of the blade is: PUMA Germany and a Rifle with the outline of Africa and a bullet. On theother side of each blade is engraved "THE AFRICAN BIG FIVE" with a rifle and crossed swords or machetes. This knife is magnificently engraved, both the blades and the handles.
The handles are ivory Micarta; the hand scrimshawed on both sides with the animal on one side – its name on the other side.

This modelis the Elephant with Elephant etched on one side and the word Elephant on the other side of the handle.
On the front side of this handle isthe Roman Numerical V in very ornate engraving and on the front side of the bolster is the head of a PUMA with the word PUMA underneath.
This knife is in mint condition and all have the factory sharpened edge. The overall length with blade open of each knife is as follows. The knife closed measures 5 1/2" The blademeasures 4 1/4". When the knife is fully opened itmeasures 9 3/4" long.
This knife is displayed in the factory wooden dovetailed box, with brass hinges and clasps. The overallboxmeasurements are 10 3/4" long x 2 3/4" wide x 1 1/2" thick.
