Original World War I 1914 Princess Mary Brass Christmas Tin/Gift Box

This isan very good example of an original issueWorld War I 1914 Princess Mary Brass Christmas Tin/Gift Box.

An authentic Princess Mary Christmas Gift Fund tin from 1914, one of the most iconic and historically significant artefacts of the First World War. These tins were sent as Christmas gifts to British and Empire troops serving in 1914, funded by public donation and personally endorsed by Princess Mary.

The lid features the embossed portrait of Princess Mary surrounded by a laurel wreath, with the royal monogram M on either side. The top reads Imperium Britannicum, with a sword and scabbard motif, while Christmas 1914 appears at the base above stylised battleship bows. The corner roundels bear the names of the Allied nations: Belgium, Japan, Montenegro, and Servia, with France and Russia flanking the central portrait.

This tin is empty, but when issued would have contented chocolate or tobacco.
