This piece was manufactured during the height of World War II and was designed to hold the M1 Garand or M1903 Springfield rifle on vehicles (such as the Willys Jeep or motorcycles) and cavalry saddles.Markings:The leather is clearly and deeply stamped near the brass mouth shield: "U.S. J.Q.M.D. 1942 J.B." indicating production at the historic Jeffersonville Quartermaster Depot in 1942, verified by inspector initials "J.B."Condition Report:This scabbard is in excellent, collector-grade condition and has been remarkably well preserved.Leather: Supple, robust, and deep in color. No dry rotting, severe cracking, or heavy scuffs.Stitching: 100% intact, tight, and bright throughout the entire body and around the end-cap.Hardware: The heavy brass mouth shield and all metal rivets are original, secure, and tight with a beautiful natural patina.Attachments: Includes the original brass wire hanging hook at the tip.
