The cranberry and gold color scheme, along with the glossy finish, adds an elegant touch to any room. Made by the renowned brand Moser, this original piece exudes artistry and craftsmanship from the 1850s to 1899. Care instructions recommend cleaning with a damp cloth to preserve its beauty for generations to come.
Ludwig Moser founded a glass engraving and decorating workshop in Karlsbad, Bohemia, which is now Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic, during the middle of the nineteenth century. Artisans created these luxurious items to satisfy the wealthy European and American market for ornate mantel and parlor decorations during the late Victorian era. Craftsmen achieved the rich pink or red hue, often called cranberry glass, by adding gold chloride to the molten batch before blowing it into shape by hand.
Affluent middle and upper-class households displayed these decorative vessels on drawing room tables, fireplace mantels, and sideboards as symbols of refinement and taste. Skilled artists applied thick gold leaf by hand and painted delicate enamel flowers over the surface, firing the pieces multiple times to ensure permanence. Changing interior design tastes after the First World War eventually reduced the demand for such elaborate, gilded art glass, shifting production toward cleaner, modern forms.
