Large Hand Carved Wood Antique Bust Statue Sculpture Indonesia Bali Travel For Sale

This is a striking hand-carved antique wooden bust, masterfully sculpted from a single block of solid wood. The subject is a serene female figure with elongated, stylized features, her gaze calm yet commanding. Her head is adorned with a finely carved headdress, its folds deeply incised to convey texture and movement, crowned with a distinctive leaf-like crest at the top. Her wide, almond-shaped eyes, prominent ears, and subtly smiling lips reflect a sculptural style often associated with Balinese or Javanese art traditions of Indonesia, particularly from the early to mid-20th century when local artisans created such busts for both cultural expression and the international art market. The chest and shoulders are smoothly polished, with a carved sash draped across the bust, echoing traditional Southeast Asian attire. The warm patina of the wood enhances the contours, lending a rich depth and luster that speaks to its age and hand-finished quality.Weighing 4 pounds and measuring 11 inches high, 7.75 inches wide, and 3.75 inches deep, the figure showcases both strength and refinement in its craftsmanship. Good antique condition with untouched aged patina to the wood. There are a few small wood losses to the headdress area.
