Early Hood & Co. sterling silver Order of the Arrow totem pin featuring a detailed Native American chief-head profile connected by a link chain to a separate arrow guard pin.
The chief faces left, with a single upright feather, braided hair, and a patterned collar. The reverse bears the HOOD maker’s mark and STERLING marking.
Hood & Co. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania served as the official Order of the Arrow jeweler from 1927 to 1945. Jennings Hood subsequently joined J.E. Caldwell & Co., taking the totem dies with him. The signed Hood hallmark is a distinguishing feature of this earlier maker’s production.
LODGE ATTRIBUTION
The head closely matches the design identified as a Tonkawampus Lodge No. 16 silver Brotherhood totem pin in the OApins reference collection. However, some OA totem designs were shared by multiple lodges. This example has no visible lodge number, and its issuing lodge remains unconfirmed. Offered as a Hood-made chief-head totem pin with a Tonkawampus-type design.
