Hanau Silver & Glass Antique German Decanter Weinranck & Schmidt Crystal c1890's For Sale

A fantastic German silver-mounted glass decanter by Weinranck & Schmidt of Hanau, circa 1890's. Clear glass decanter with finely wheel-engraved floral, foliage, scrollwork and crosshatch on all 4 panels. Elaborate .800 silver in pierced repoussé design with hand chasing in Rococo Revival with putti, flowers, latticework, and rocaille ornament. It's highly detailed piece of artwork and a conversation piece.

The bottle is stoppered in matching silver by a young Bacchus raising a drinking vessel. The front cartouche was provided for a monogram but remains unengraved. Marks include Germany, 800, and the Weinranck & Schmidt heart-form W.S/H maker's mark. The silver base casing weighs 131 grams.

The decanter measures approximately 13.25" tall with the stopper inserted, 5" wide, and 2.25 front to back. The base is about 5"x3".

• Fine antique condition overall, with ordinary surface wear, light scratches, and minor residual tarnish consistent with age.
• The bottle seats securely in the silver mount and can be removed without damaging anything; one seam of the base has a micro-split that is stable and consistent with normal flexing.
• Chips and losses are present around the bottom edges of the glass, concealed by the silver base when assembled. Please review the detailed photographs.
• The interior has mineral residue and cloudy areas, including cloudiness that may represent etching or glass deterioration; only a gentle wash was performed, any further conservation at the discretion of the buyer.
• The stopper is in excellent condition and seats naturally in the neck, though it is not an airtight fit.
• The base sits flat and the decanter is stable without wobble.
• The piece has been gently washed and the silver lightly polished, with no aggressive restoration. A light coating of conservation wax was applied to the silver after cleaning.

The stopper will be wrapped separately with archival tissue and layers of protective cushioning.
