George Reid Revolutionary War General Signed Document New Hampshire Antique: $79.00
An original 1786 manuscript document signed by Revolutionary War Brigadier General George Reid (1733–1815) as selectman of Londonderry, New Hampshire. Reid was a Londonberry farmer who led a company of the 1st New Hampshire Regiment in the Battle of Bunker Hill. Promoted to Captain, he fought at Long Island, White Plains, Trenton, Brandywine, Germantown, Saratoga, and Stillwater. As a Colonel, he remained with his men at Valley Forge. In 1779 he took part in the Sullivan Expedition against the Iroquois Confederacy. He finished out his eight years in service -- one of the longest tenures of any Revolutionary War soldier -- as Brigadier General of the New Hampshire troops. The document is in a clear hand. It is for payment for boarding a woman who was \"one of the town poor.\" It measures about 6 3/4\" x 5\". It is in Fair / Good shape with edge wear and tear. The document is still supple, not brittle, and can be handled without fear. The writing is very legible and the signature is nice and bold. A superb piece of American history and an upgrade to any collection. I ship every day the post office is open with your item safely packed the way it deserves to be. I always combine shipping and refund the excess back when you buy multiple items. Please see the rest of my store for more museum quality artifacts.
