Franklin D Roosevelt Postmaster Appointments St Michaels MD 1934 1938 1942 Lot:
$499.99

Exceptional St. Michaels, Maryland postal and Eastern Shore history archive centered on the tenure of Postmaster Malcolm F. Caplan.

Included are three United States Post Office Department presidential postmaster appointment documents issued during the Franklin D. Roosevelt administration, believed dated 1934, 1938 and 1942. The visible appointments name Malcolm F. Caplan as Postmaster at Saint Michaels, Talbot County, Maryland and bear the Franklin D. Roosevelt presidential signature along with the appropriate Postmaster General signature and embossed Post Office Department seal.

Also included is an original-looking vintage black-and-white photograph of the United States Post Office, Saint Michaels, Maryland, providing an excellent visual connection to the appointment documents.

The lot also includes a colorful 1947 Edwin Tunis Historical Map of the Maryland Eastern Shore – The Chesapeake Bay Country, published to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Tilghman Packing Company. The map contains a detailed inset of Tilghman Island and numerous illustrated Eastern Shore landmarks, communities and historical references.

Together, these pieces form an unusually cohesive collection relating directly to St. Michaels, Tilghman Island, Talbot County, the U.S. Postal Service and Franklin D. Roosevelt-era Maryland history.

Important: Signatures are described as they appear on the documents. I would not advertise the Roosevelt signatures as personally hand-signed/autographs unless separately authenticated.
