About This Specimen:
This exceptional polymetallic ore specimen hails from the historic Einstein Mine in the St. Francois Mountains—the only area in Missouri historically mined specifically for silver and tungsten.
The exterior of this specimen exhibits cerussite, a heavy lead carbonate mineral that forms naturally as an oxidation and weathering product of the primary lead ores. The interior reveals fresh, highly reflective argentiferous galena (silver-bearing lead ore), which made this specific mining district famous.
A standout feature of this piece is its light magnetic signature. The Einstein Mine is famously a tungsten-bearing locality, and this magnetism is a classic indicator of finely disseminated wolframite (an iron-manganese tungstate) in the matrix. The iron content within the wolframite creates this weak magnetic pull, adding a fascinating layer of verifiable geological history to the piece that can be demonstrated in hand.
This is a phenomenal, dense, and historically significant piece for any serious collector of Missouri minerals or historic mining district ores.
