💎 Description

In daylight, this Sterling Hill specimen shows a white calcite matrix densely packed with reddish-brown willemite grains and lustrous black franklinite crystals. The even, three-tone speckling gives it a crisp granular texture across every face.

Under shortwave, the willemite grains light up brilliant electric green across the entire surface, while both the calcite and franklinite stay dark. With no red calcite response competing for attention, the result is a clean, high-contrast green-on-black pattern, a striking single-color look that stands apart from the typical red-and-green trio. Under longwave the willemite holds a softer yellow-green across the same grains, keeping the speckled pattern clearly visible.

⸻

🌍 Composition

• Willemite — Zn₂SiO₄ — reddish-brown in daylight, brilliant electric green under SW UV, softer yellow-green under LW UV

• Franklinite — ZnFe₂O₄ — non-fluorescent at both wavelengths, black crystals providing contrast

• Calcite — CaCO₃ — white matrix, non-fluorescent in this specimen

• Natural, untreated specimen from the Sterling Hill Mine, Ogdensburg, NJ

⸻

✨ Features

• Dense electric green willemite grains covering the full surface under SW UV

• Non-fluorescent calcite creates a clean green-on-black display

• Crisp three-tone daylight speckling of white, reddish-brown, and black

• Dual-wavelength willemite response, strongest under SW

• Solid display size at 3.5 in and 1 lb 3.4 oz

• Sourced from the historic Sterling Hill Mine, Ogdensburg, Sussex County, NJ, one of the world's most famous fluorescent mineral localities

⸻

🔦 Fluorescence

• LW UV (Lumenbeast 365nm): willemite softer yellow-green; calcite and franklinite non-fluorescent

• SW UV (Stimac Engineering 255nm): willemite brilliant electric green; calcite and franklinite non-fluorescent
