Don Post Skull Mask Vinyl 1967/74-76 JUMBO CHOCOLATE Rare:
$425.99

Here we have a rare Don Post Jumbo "chocolate" brown Vinyl Skull mask.

Predates glow variants.

I'm guessing that this was one of the last "Jumbo" Skulls produced after the Plastisol era, and during the interim period of the switch over to the conventional Vinyl..AND additionally, before the prominant downsizing of the 1967/1976 and 1976(lone) dated Skulls that resulted out of the retooling of the damaged  first- gen mold(s). (Remember, all in-house rotocasting for these Skulls was black vinyl).

On this copy, they were still using that cool silvery white paint, albeit in a one-step process that didn't require a base coat due to the brown tinted vinyl.

NOW,  this mask isn't without its problems. This was obviously pre-loved and used as intended many times, complete with the seemingly obligatory tear above the keyhole. The jawline has a partial [but neat] cut for breathing, but the right side "lateral incisor"  blank is missing.  It also presents with some faint red stains the could likely be removed. (All defects pictured).

Furthermore, this copy could historically be an example of the reason why retooling needed to be done to the mold to begin with:

This probably never should've made it to retail. Either the rotocasting process for this copy had heat syncing issues, it was poured off too soon, or the pull exhibits the wear to the metal mold to begin with that necessitated the retooling.  The vinyl is as thick as the era produced, but tapers thinner from (only) just under the nose ,  then down to the teeth, chin, and lower neck area. It gradually thickens working from the back teeth on either side starting at the lower jawline to the neck slit. All other areas are spec. No rot!

Originally sculpted by the legendary Pat Newman, [this] Skull was cast from an original 1960s-sized mold..the largest size Don Post ever produced!

These jumbo Skulls are difficult to shop for as all are dated 1967 and a vast majority of sellers hinge on the original copyright date thinking [theirs] were cast in '67...even the much later latex copies.

The ridge details on these as-intended sized Skulls are amazing!

This mask is roomy. You could easily wear this mask over a 1976 updated copy and STILL have room between masks!

Once again, and for scale, the last (2) Pics photograph this mask side by side with a Jumbo '78/'79 glow Skull (positively NOT Included / NOT for sale).

Vinyl is still fully flexible and springy.

No styro EVER!

Ships boxed and fully insured.
