Darwin Ohlerking Vintage Tooled Leather Cross Art Framed Iowa Master Artist For Sale

An exceptional piece of original, mid-century American religious folk art by renowned Iowa master leather artist Darwin Ohlerking (1929–2007).
This masterfully hand-tooled leather panel features a Christian cross standing on a hill set against a minimalist rising sun. The leather is beautifully textured, showcasing Ohlerking’s signature dimensional carving techniques which earned him national acclaim as a featured pattern designer for Tandy Leather.
The piece is securely housed in its original, heavy grain solid oak wood frame and retains its authentic artist studio label on the reverse side: \"Darwin Ohlerking, 515 North Kirkwood, Eagle Grove, IA 50533\".
• Subject: Christian Cross with Sunrise
• Art Medium: Hand-carved and tooled natural leather
• Framing: Premium solid oak frame with heavy wood panel backing
• Hanging Hardware: Sturdy braided wire installed on the back, ready to hang immediately

Condition Note: Both the leather artwork and the oak frame are in excellent vintage condition. There is a single, very minor natural character mark on the upper left quadrant of the leather (visible in photos), which is common for genuine hand-worked hides. The wood backing has a natural cosmetic seam gap that does not affect structural integrity. Please review all pictures for a closer view of the incredible texture and details.
