California Baby Strawberry Produce Market Vintage 1971 Photo Signed Neal White For Sale

Baby Among the Strawberries — Vintage Photograph by Neal M. White, 1971

A delightful and wonderfully unexpected black-and-white photograph by American photographer Neal M. White (1947–2024).

A baby reclines in a small infant seat on a produce stand, surrounded by open cartons of strawberries bearing the bold lettering \"CALIFORNIA.\" One little arm reaches toward the fruit, while the hands of an adult arranging produce appear at the upper left of the composition.

Photographed from above, the scene combines the ordinary bustle of a produce market with an almost surreal juxtaposition of infant and merchandise. The repeated lettering on the strawberry cartons, the geometry of the boxes, and the baby\'s expressive gesture create an especially engaging composition.

The photograph is presented on its original cranberry-maroon mount, a lovely complement to the Neal M. White (1947–2024)

Signed and dated by Neal White at the lower right, beneath the photograph and mount present attractively, with age-related signs of handling and wear. The reverse has old adhesive residue and handwritten notations, as shown in the photographs. Please examine all images for details of condition.

Provenance:

From the personal photographic archive of Neal M. White, longtime professor of photography at San Francisco State University.

An engaging example of White\'s observational photography, finding humor, tenderness, and visual surprise in an everyday scene.
