Bruce McCandless NASA Exceptional Service Award & Pair of MMU Spacewalk Photos For Sale

For sale is an impressive three-piece group from the personal collection of NASA astronaut Bruce McCandless II. These pieces are part of a larger archive of more than 20 significant items from McCandless's personal collection documenting his NASA career, including the MMU and Hubble programs. This group includes:

• Two large framed photographs of Bruce McCandless II during his historic 1984 MMU spacewalk, when he became the first astronaut to fly freely in space without a tether.
• Bruce McCandless II's framed NASA Exceptional Service Medal presentation certificate, recognizing his contributions as a Mission Specialist on STS-41B and STS-31, the mission that deployed the Hubble Space Telescope.

Together, the three pieces document two of the defining accomplishments of McCandless's NASA career.

The two MMU photographs are exceptionally sharp and impressive in person. Each measure approximately 16½ × 20 inches overall, including the frame. The NASA Exceptional Service Medal certificate measures approximately 16½ × 13½ inches overall.

To help document the photographs, I carefully removed the backing from one frame. Beneath the backing are handwritten identification numbers, 582-30195, shown in the final photograph. These markings are not visible with the backing in place. I did not remove the backing from the second photograph.

All three pieces came directly from Bruce McCandless II's personal collection and have been preserved together. Their direct McCandless provenance and connection to the MMU and Hubble missions make this a particularly interesting group of NASA history.
