British Royal Coat of Arms Ceremonial Banner / Wall HangingMeasuring approximately 48” x 51” Rare, large-format piece featuring master-level craftsmanship. Exquisite Artistry & Construction: The central Royal Arms crest is entirely embroidered using premium, heavy metallic gold and silver bullion wire (purl work) and couching techniques.The Crest: Features the iconic Lion and Unicorn supporting the central shield, crowned with the classic Tudor Crown motif (historically used from Edward VII through George VI, and recently reintroduced by King Charles III).Intricate Details: Features gold spangles (sequins) accenting the lion’s mane and tail, beautifully textured silver wire chiseled into the unicorn’s coat, and the three traditional plant badges of the United Kingdom (the English Tudor Rose, Scottish Thistle, and Irish Shamrock) resting beneath the shield.The Mottos: The historic Garter motto \"Honi soit qui mal y pense\" and the monarch\'s motto \"Dieu et mon droit\" are flawlessly rendered in raised metallic gold thread on silk banners.Materials: The front face is a heavy, dense red wool felt / broadcloth framed by metallic gold trim and a full lower gold fringe. The reverse is fully lined with a beautifully preserved, smooth red silk/satin backing to protect the internal embroidery work. Includes four integrated hanging tabs at the top.Estate sale find: This vintage banner is being sold in as-is, fair to good vintage conditionThe Embroidery: The metallic gold and silver bullion structurally sound, and securely attached to the fabric. Lining: The reverse red silk/satin lining is clean, smooth, and free of major tearing. There’s is one minor dark stain in the lower portion. See photo. The Defects (Moth Damage?): The front red wool felt backing shows clear, distinct areas of historic moth damage (fabric loss/voids). This insect damage is primarily located in the voids directly bordering the heavy central embroidery, around the central Garter shield, and near the lower motto ribbon. These areas show black/dark voids where the wool pile has been eaten away down to the structural backing thread. Please closely inspect the provided photos for exact details on these areas.
