Historical Context on Mr. Swanson

Historical school directories and local registries from the early 1900s indicate that the Swanson name was tied to early local education and ranching families in the Boise area. A prominent educator in the region during this era was Oscar E. Swanson, who worked as an area principal and educator around the turn of the century after graduating from university

During the 1910s, high school advisors or homeroom teachers were responsible for tracking student progress, monitoring attendance, and acting as a bridge between the school administration (led by Principal Oliver O. Young) and the parents. In Helen's case, Mr. Swanson would have been the person reviewing her significant spike in absences (jumping from 6 to 20 half-days missed) and signing off on her final marks for the semester.
