Give your shelf, mantel or table a little blue drama.
This handmade studio pottery vase features a glossy blue crystalline glaze over a soft gray ground. Large, flower-like crystals spread across the surface, so the pattern changes as you turn the vase. You get a piece that feels artistic without being difficult to decorate around.
Crystalline pottery gets its distinctive look in the kiln. A special glaze is heated to a high temperature, then held at carefully controlled temperatures that allow crystals to grow within the glaze. Because the crystals develop during firing, their shapes and placement are naturally varied, giving each piece its own look.
Styling ideas: Fill it with pink tulips for an easy pop of color, as shown in the photos. You could also try white hydrangeas, greenery or a few simple branches. Prefer a cleaner look? Display it empty on a bookshelf, mantel or console. The blue-gray palette works especially well with coastal, organic modern, contemporary and collected interiors.
The underside has a faint impressed maker’s mark or signature. I have not been able to confidently identify the artist, so it is being offered as unidentified studio pottery.
Approximate measurements: 7” high x 5” wide with a 2.5” mouth. Weight is approximately 1 lb 4 oz.
Condition: Good preowned condition. There is a small chip on the inner edge of the rim, shown in the photos. It is fairly unobtrusive when the vase is displayed. No other chips or cracks noted. Please review all photos closely for condition.
A pretty piece to enjoy with flowers—or let that unusual crystalline glaze do all the work on its own.
