Antique Wentworth’s No. 3 Saw Sharpening Vise Pat 1879 Working Broken Mount For Sale

Antique Wentworth’s No. 3 cast-iron saw-sharpening vise featuring William P. Wentworth’s patented quick-action design. It is marked with the April 8, 1879 patent date.

This specialized woodworking tool was designed to hold a hand-saw blade firmly while its teeth were filed and sharpened. The large curved cam lever quickly opens and closes the long blade-holding jaws.

The main saw-vise mechanism has been tested and works nicely. The cam lever operates properly, and the jaws open, close, and clamp as intended.

The original screw-operated bench clamp is also included; however, the round mounting pin that connected the bench clamp to the vise appears to have broken off flush with the clamp casting. The vise and bench clamp are therefore detached and will require repair or replacement mounting hardware before they can be used together. Please examine the close-up photographs of the broken mounting area carefully.

The vise remains in as-found, unrestored condition with surface rust, oxidation, accumulated grime, finish loss, and general wear consistent with its considerable age and working history. No cleaning or restoration has been performed.
