Condition

Antique pre-owned condition with age-related wear throughout. The wooden case has areas of cracking, veneer separation/delamination, scratches, finish wear, and other imperfections consistent with its age. Interior blue velvet shows wear, fading, and discoloration. The fitted accessories show age-related tarnish and wear. Mirror is present inside the lid. Hidden side drawer opens by lifting the interior release pin. Please review all photos closely for exact condition and contents.

Description

Beautiful antique Victorian lady’s fitted dressing, vanity and sewing box, believed to date to approximately the mid-1800s / circa 1850s.

The box features a richly figured wood exterior, believed to be rosewood or rosewood veneer, with a fitted blue velvet interior. The lid opens to reveal an interior mirror along with multiple fitted compartments containing the various glass jars, bottles and accessories pictured.

One of the most interesting features is the concealed side drawer. An interior pin must be lifted to release the hidden drawer, which then slides out from the side of the case.

The set appears to be substantially complete based on the fitted compartments and included pieces, but I cannot guarantee that every item originally supplied with the box in the 1800s is present. Everything shown in the photographs is included.

The wooden case does have condition issues, particularly cracking and areas of veneer separation/delamination along the front and upper edges. There are also scratches, finish wear, tarnishing, discoloration and other signs of age throughout. Despite these imperfections, the piece still displays extremely well and has a beautiful antique appearance.
