Antique Meissen Cupid Facing Rejection Porcelain Figurine Schwabe Pollak No 113 For Sale

Antique Meissen porcelain figure “Cupid Facing Rejection,” modeled by Heinrich Schwabe and Johann Pollak circa 1880–1882.

This finely modeled hand-painted porcelain figure depicts Cupid/Amor scratching his head in disappointment, with feathered wings and a decorated quiver suspended across his body. A gilt bow rests at his feet beside a naturalistically modeled tree stump and floral ground. The figure stands on an elegant tiered marble-effect porcelain pedestal accented with gilt bands.

The underside bears the underglaze blue crossed-swords mark associated with Meissen.

This design is documented as Meissen model No. 113, from a series of four Cupid figures modeled by Heinrich Schwabe and Johann Pollak in 1880–1882. A late-19th-century example of this model has been cataloged by Dorotheum as “Cupid Facing Rejection.” Dorotheum
