Up for sale is an authentic piece of early Americana an antique split tail counter balance scale made by the historic Howe Scale Co. of Rutland, Vermont. This is the highly desirable 2-pound capacity general store model, and it features an incredible amount of original detail that collectors love. What makes this particular scale a standout find is how complete and untouched it is. It still wears its original factory applied rustic red paint and features a remarkably clear, intact gold and black Howe Trade Mark crown decal on the central pillar. The top of the cast iron housing is crisply embossed with HOWE SCALE CO. RUTLAND VT. The brass components are entirely original and beautifully aged. The solid brass balance beam and the top weighing pan are both clearly stamped with the HOWE maker\'s mark. Additionally, the brass sliding weight is stamped with the factory assembly number 913, proving it is the exact matching poise that left the factory with this scale. Condition wise, it is in wonderful vintage shape with an honest, hard earned patina. The mechanics move freely and pivot smoothly. There is some minor, typical denting on the left side of the brass top plate from decades of real world use, but it only adds to its rustic character. The underside is clean, solid, and completely free of cracks or repairs to the cast iron.
