Antique Hemstreet Greatest Hypnotist Peerless Mind Reader Magic Poster As Is For Sale

Title: RARE Antique Magic/Hypnotism Poster: Hemstreet "World's Greatest Hypnotist" - Donaldson Litho, Newport, KY.

Description:

A fascinating, authentically aged original antique color lithograph poster advertising J.A. Hemstreet. The bold header text at the top reads: "HEMSTREET", followed by "WORLD'S GREATEST HYPNOTIST AND PEERLESS MIND READER". A small portrait of Hemstreet is included in a top-left vignette. Below it reads: "JOLLY PRINCE OF ALL REFINED FUN MAKERS."

The vibrant and dramatic artwork is rich with occult and performance imagery. A central hypnotist in formal wear is making mesmerizing hand gestures over a woman in a trance, lying on a sofa with flowers. Above them, a winged red devil/imp observes, and strange apparitions rise in smoke. The surrounding room contains a bird cage and other props. In the lower left, a monstrous green winged imp and other small figures are shown with a pile of roses.

This rare print is clearly marked in the bottom right corner with: "THE DONALDSON LITHO CO., NEWPORT, KY. NO. 1937".
