Full Description:
Up for sale is a beautiful, highly collectible antique H. Boker & Co. straight razor celebrating the historic American Line S.S. St. Louis transatlantic steamship. Manufactured in Solingen, Germany, this premium turn-of-the-century razor is a fantastic piece of cross-collectible history—appealing heavily to both vintage wet-shaving enthusiasts and maritime/naval history collectors alike.
Historical Significance:
The front face of the carbon steel blade features a highly detailed, crisp etching of the S.S. St. Louis, a prominent passenger liner launched in late 1894. The ship went on to serve the United States as an auxiliary cruiser during the Spanish-American War (1898) and as a troop transport during World War I. The reverse side of the blade spine is elegantly etched with \"AMERICAN LINE.\"
Markings & Authenticity:
• Tang Front: Stamped \"H. Boker & Co.\" accompanied by the iconic Boker Tree Brand logo.
• Tang Reverse: Stamped \"GERMANY\", dating this specific production window between 1895 and 1914.
• Blade Front: Detailed ship engraving flanked by two additional Tree Brand logos.
Condition Report:
• Blade Steel: Structurally excellent with perfect alignment and completely straight blade geometry. No warping, twisting, or bends. The spine shows normal uniform darkening but has no signs of aggressive historical over-honing. The front ship etching remains incredibly clear, legible, and crisp. There is light, natural vintage patina/dark tarnish on the steel face consistent with age, but no deep active red rust. Please note: The edge has lost its historical factory bevel and is NOT currently shave-ready; it will require professional honing if intended for use.
• Scales & Hardware: The dark, minimalist scales are structurally sound with no cracks around the pins. The brass pivot pin is tight and holds the blade firmly without slipping, and the blade centers perfectly between the scales when closed without rubbing.
Please review all high-resolution photos carefully to evaluate the exact cosmetic condition for yourself. Don\'t miss the chance to add this well-preserved piece of 19th-century maritime history to your collection!
