Exquisite Antique French Neoclassical Ormolu & Two-Tone Enameled Cabinet Picture Frame

Circa 1890–1910 — Elegant Belle Époque Era Luxury Desktop Decor

An exceptional, premier-quality survivor from the turn of the century. This authentic French desktop picture frame features a sophisticated three-piece modular design, blending fine gilt bronze/brass ormolu casting with a heavy, two-tone enameled matting plate. It creates a striking Neoclassical aesthetic that beautifully anchors any high-end mantle, library, or gallery display.

Design & Craftsmanship Details

• The Ormolu Casing: Crafted from heavy, finely chased gilt brass/bronze ormolu. It features a detailed repeating scroll pattern along the side profile, an elaborate acanthus leaf and scallop shell cresting at the top arch, matching side rosettes, and a foliate mount anchoring the base.

• The Enameled Matting Plate: A heavy, separate metal insert finished with a dual-color scheme. The top arch features an elegant opaque cream/off-white enamel field, while the lower section is flanked by a deep, glossy solid black border.

• The Backing: Retains its original easel-backed backing board with a functional desktop display stand.

Dimensions

• Outer Frame Size: 9.25 inches x 11.25 inches

• Inner Photo Window Size: 7 inches x 9 inches (Perfect for a standard cabinet card or portrait print)

Condition Report

• Glass State: The front protective glass is entirely structurally sound with clean edges and zero cracks or chips.

• Cosmetic Note: The frame is in beautiful antique condition with a rich, authentic golden patina to the ormolu. There is a minor, localized flake to the black paint on the metal matting plate along the bottom inner rim corner (clearly highlighted in the close-up photo). The metal plate itself is completely sound and smooth. This minor paint loss can be easily touched up or left as honest, authentic antique character.
