Antique Etruria Mellor & Co/Cook Pottery Ironstone Shaving Bowl Trenton, NJ 1894 For Sale

Up for sale is a beautiful, rare piece of American ceramic history. Manufactured by the Cook Pottery Company at the historic Etruria Pottery Works in Trenton, New Jersey, this piece dates back to the late 1890s or early 1900s.

This unique, heavy ironstone pedestal bowl features a striking, deep maroon/burgundy horizontal band and a footed base. The interior includes a built-in ceramic divider and drainage holes along the rim, characteristic of a specialized antique shaving basin or washstand set component. It has a wonderful, clean farmhouse aesthetic that displays beautifully.

This piece measures 5.5” tall x 10” across the bowl and 6.5” across the pedestal base.

Markings:

The bottom features the crisp, circular black underglaze backstamp: "ETRURIA MELLOR & CO." surrounding their signature central monogram.

Condition Report:

• Structurally sound with no major chips, structural cracks, or large repairs.

• Shows beautiful, authentic vintage age-crazing throughout the glaze (visible in photos), which is expected and desired for ironstone of this era.

• Minimal wear to the maroon painted band and gold accent lines.
