Antique Early 19th Century Buddha Head Bronze Brass Bust Sculpture Buddhist Art:
$699.99

An impressive antique Buddha head sculpture, presented as an early 19th-century piece, with a beautifully aged appearance and traditional Buddhist iconography. The sculpture has a substantial presence despite its compact proportions and weighs approximately 1007 grams (2.22 lb).

The Buddha is portrayed with a peaceful, contemplative expression, gently lowered eyes, elongated earlobes and a finely modeled face. The forehead bears a decorative spiritual marking, while the head is covered with numerous individually formed curls rising toward a distinctive pointed finial at the crown.

The metal surface has developed a rich dark brown and bronze-toned patina, interspersed with warmer golden highlights across the face, neck and raised areas. Variations in tone, surface texture and wear give the sculpture the character associated with an old, traditionally cast decorative object.

The reverse and side views reveal extensive sculptural detailing throughout the hair and ears rather than decoration being confined to the front. The underside is open, showing that the head was hollow cast, a traditional method that allowed substantial sculptural forms to be produced without making them excessively heavy.

The piece measures approximately 5.5 inches (14 cm) high and approximately 3 inches (7.5–8 cm) across, with an actual photographed weight of approximately 1007 grams.

Its compact size, substantial weight, aged surface and distinctive Buddhist imagery make it an attractive piece for a collection of 19th-century Asian decorative art, Buddhist objects, antique metalwork or religious sculpture, as well as a striking standalone display piece.

Condition

Antique/pre-owned condition with an aged patinated surface, rubbing, discoloration, deposits, marks and other signs of age and handling. These characteristics contribute considerably to the sculpture's old-world appearance and character. The facial features, elongated ears and elaborate hair remain particularly attractive and well defined.

Please study all photographs carefully. Multiple views of the front, sides, back, top and hollow underside are provided together with photographs showing the dimensions and weight. The exact Buddha head pictured is the item you will receive.
