About Company C, 1st Connecticut Heavy Artillery
• Origin: The regiment was organized in Washington, D.C., originating from the 4th Connecticut Infantry and converting to heavy artillery on January 2, 1862.
• Company C Deployment: During the Richmond-Petersburg campaign and the operations of the Army of the James in 1864, Company C was stationed and active at Fort Brady along the James River in Virginia, operating heavy ordnance including Parrott rifles. Portions of the company also saw service around Dutch Gap.
• Historical Record: The company is well-documented in Civil War visual history through historic wet-collodion glass plate photographs taken at Fort Brady by military photographers in 1864, capturing both its officers and gun batteries.
• Mustering Out: The parent regiment mustered out on September 25, 1865, and was officially discharged in Hartford, Connecticut.
