Antique African Krobo Akoso Powder Glass Beads Strand and 1 Huge Bodom Bead: $74.00
Offered here is a fabulous strand of antique African Krodo Okoso trade beads. They are made in the traditional way using powder glass fired in clay molds. The formed glass beads can be decorated in a couple of ways. A glass slurry can be created and the decorations painted on, and then fired again, or strips of colored hot glass can be applied to the beads. Africans used beads for currency and wealth storage. The Bodom bead is the centerpiece of the necklace. Bodom beads are traditional West African powder-glass beads, primarily crafted by the Krobo people in Ghana using a specialized, sand-cast \"wet-core\" technique. Historically reserved for tribal chiefs, the bead is yellow with a decorative pattern. Social status could be easily determined by the quality and quantity of the beads owned, this strand has a good mix of colors, shapes and sizes. These beads were made by the Krodo in Ghana. African beads made from recycled powder glass.
